When Fear Overcomes Faith
Elijah: Help - Divine Intervention Needed
Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. (Psalm 42:11)
If ever you have found yourself in a hole of depression, you will most likely discover that it is much easier to find a way in than a way out. What we often don’t realize, however; is that there are subtle signs providentially designed to warn us of the dangers ahead. Please listen with us this week as Pastor Kevin illustrates the signs and solutions of depression through the life story of the prophet Elijah.
Elijah: The Choice
Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him. (Isaiah 30:18)
This week Pastor Kevin discussed how to exercise faith when you’ve got nothing to hope for but a miracle. Please listen with us as we continue to walk through 1 Kings, and the inspiring, unwavering belief of Elijah the prophet.
Crossing the Divide
Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” But the people said nothing. (1 Kings 18:21)
In the bible we so often we read stories about the dangers of idol worship, but in our current culture you may find it difficult to see people bowing down to Baals, and if you live in the Bible Belt, it’s more likely you’ll see a church than an Ashera pole on every corner. But, does that mean that modern-day American Christians don’t have idols? Listen to Pastor Kevin as he helps us find the true definition of idol worship, and how we ought to respond when faced with the choice of deciding who deserves our worship.
Elijah: Stationed to Serve
13 Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
As humans, we we go to great lengths to feel fulfilled. But even when we are disappointed with our treasures, we are unfazed. We simply set out a plan for the next conquest. However, in John 4, Jesus talks to a woman about how new conquests will never quench her thirst. Please join our guest speaker, Chaplain Rob Wills, as he dives into the book of John to discover what lengths Jesus goes to satisfy us with what we truly need.
“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.” (John 15:18+19)
As disciples of Jesus Christ, we are called to live like Him, and not the world. However, the pressure to follow the crowd often distracts us from our true calling. Join Pastor Kevin as he continues his journey through the life of Elijah, and uncovers keys to staying strong in our faith when we face severe opposition.
